Tahun ini merupakan penyelenggaraan Emmy Awards ke-72 yang disiarkan secara langsung dari Staples Center, Los Angeles, California, AS. Penghargaan akan diberikan kepada program TV terbaik di AS yang sudah diseleksi sejak 1 Juni 2019 hingga 31 Mei 2020 oleh Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.

2. Acara tanpa penonton
Tahun ini Emmy Awards akan berlangsung tanpa penonton terdampak pandemi Covid-19. Namun, diprediksi bakal jadi acara penghargaan yang bakal paling tinggi streaming-nya. Nggak heran, sih, karena orang-orang sekarang lebih banyak WFH.
Emmy Awards 2020 akan dipandu oleh Jimmy Kimmel yang sebelumnya sudah menjadi host juga pada tahun 2012 dan 2016. Jimmy sukses membawakan acara dengan jokes segar yang mampu menghidupkan suasana. Namun begitu untuk kali ini Jimmy mengaku agak nervous, terutama soal teknis penyiaran.
Wajar, sih, karena para nominator tidak hadir secara fisik dan digantikan oleh tampilan layar live streaming dari sekitar 130 kamera yang standby di rumah mereka masing-masing. Kebayang ribetnya, ya, kalau koneksi jelek berarti Jimmy harus siap-siap improvisasi!
3. Dresscode unik dan protokol kesehatan
Oke, lupakan red carpet dengan selebritas dalam balutan gaun cantik atau tuxedo. Untuk Emmy Awards ke-72 ini tidak akan ada selebritas yang berjalan melintasi karpet merah. Semua undangan akan hadir di rumah masing-masing dengan dresscode: whatever you want but try to make an effort. 😉
Petugas yang akan menyerahkan piala kepada pemenang akan datang ke rumah masing-masing dengan mengenakan APD unik bermodel tuxedo! Katja Cahill (costume designer) dan Guy Carrington (executive produucer) bekerja sama dengan pembuat hazmat ingin memastikan bahwa acara berlangsung aman dan nyaman bagi semua pihak sesuai protokol kesehatan.
4. Kejutan yang ditunggu?
Tanpa red carpet apakah kamu tetap bisa melihat seleb favorit membacakan nominasi atau memberikan pidato kemenangan? Jawabannya bisa! Seperti disebutkan pada poin sebelumnya, ya, sekitar 130 kamera memang sengaja standby untuk menghadirkan wajah-wajah aktor dan aktris yang masuk nominasi, plus merekam momen kemenangannya.
